About the Organization: The Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America (FCC) was founded in 1908. It originally consisted of thirty-three Protestant denominations representing eighteen million members. While there had been cooperation among churches on specific issues before, the founding of the FCC was a major step toward ecumenism (worldwide cooperation among different churches), as it was the first permanent interdenominational organization in the United States.
