About the Authors: Kate Richards O'Hare (1877–1948) joined the Socialist Party in 1901 and was a prominent Socialist in the early twentieth century. She ran for the U.S. Senate from Missouri and the House of Representatives from Kansas, though she never polled more than 5 percent of the vote. She campaigned against poverty and in favor of prison reform. After divorcing Francis P. O'Hare, she married Charles Cunningham in 1928 and lived the remainder of her life in California.
