The advertisement for Diamond dyes shows the extent to which the synthetic dyeing industry had progressed from the first dye introduction in 1856. Up until that point, all textile colorants were derived from natural products (plant, animal, or mineral sources) and required fairly extensive preparations to achieve inconsistent results.
